A sick baby in the UK has been making headlines all the way across the pond in the U.S. Charlie Gard is a baby born in the UK with a terminal illness. European courts made the rash decision that it would be in the best interest of the infant if he were to simply die. It seemed from the beginning that there was no possible way for this story to have a good outcome, however, Donald Trump decided to take a stand.

The Telegraph stated:

US President Donald Trump has made an eleventh-hour intervention in case of terminally-ill baby Charlie Gard by offering help to save him.

Trump tweeted “If we can help little #CharlieGard, as per our friends in the U.K. and the Pope, we would be delighted to do so.”

This is all happening while Chris Gard and Connie Yates spend what may be the last days with their 10-month-old son’s life with him. They were already given more time before his life support was to be turned off.

Charlie’s condition being so rare has no known cure. He suffers from an extremely rare genetic condition leaving him with permanent brain damage. He is spending his days at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

His story became world news quickly, which helped aid his parents in raising enough money to be able to come to the United States to seek treatment for their infant son.

The story of the sick little boy found its way to people around the world, tugging at the heartstrings of everyone who heard it. The family was able to raise over £1.3 million in donations. This money would allow the family to bring Charlie to the United States and get him the care that he so desperately needed.

When there was nothing more that doctors in the UK could do for the baby the family knew that they had to find other means of saving their son. They knew that coming to America would be their only chance. Despite the efforts of the family, the court system decided that there was no saving Charlie and that he would die. A day earlier the parents released an internet video claiming that they were told definitively that their baby boy would die by Friday.

The mother and father were told by doctors that they would not even be able to take their baby home so he could die in peace. The had lost the legal fight and felt completely helpless.

After trying just about everything to save their son, it seems as though President Trump is the child’s last hope for survival. There is no guarantee with the experimental treatments that will be performed on Charlie in the U.S., however, if there is success Charlie could be saved, despite what doctors in the UK said. President Trump became this family’s last hope, and he is implementing a plan to save the baby’s life. Doctors in the U.S. will do everything they can to save Charlie thanks to Trump’s support.
