The US Olympic Committee when into the Winter Games with an agenda of diversity, which included ensuring that there was a fair mix of races and sexual orientation among the medalist. Basically, awards are allegedly being determined by affirmative action and not actual ability. This also reaches into other aspects of the games, such as the US Hockey Team being put on notice that there are too many white players this year and that’s not going to be acceptable for next time and could affect their success this year.
With all of this ridiculous divisiveness, it’s no wonder that officials were so quick to bend over backward for Muslims at the games. However, now, the people they were giving something special too are now raging mad for a new reason.
Muslims in South Korea are raging after what they just had taken away from them. I bet you thought they lost a gold medal or perhaps a one-way-ticket to 72 virgins, but that’s not quite the case just yet. They can’t handle what just happened, and they’ll have to adapt to real-life situations just like everyone else when they’re faced with adversity. Victims of terror attacks orchestrated by Muslims are always reacting to the tragedy, but this time it was the Muslims who were faced with adversity.
It’s being reported that the Korea Tourism Organization, also known as the KTO, have eliminated plans to establish a prayer room for viewers. The reason is that people were protesting against the Muslim religion. Perhaps there was a level of untrust and disdain for those who believe in Islam after all the terror attacks have happened across the world.
It stated that over 56,000 signatures were collected in opposition and fear of radical Islamic terrorism taking place. Others have reported that there has already been enough taxpayer money spent on the Olympics and there was no need to spend any more on a special prayer room or give a specific religion special benefits. The strong opposition and desire to cut spending combined to eliminate the option of building a prayer room.
Yahoo reported more on the situation:
“We sat down with them for talks, but in the end, we had to cancel the plans,” Gangneung city government tourism division chief Kang Suk-ho told Al Jazeera.
The KTO’s Kim Yeong-ju told Korea Exposé’s Ho Kyeong Jang that opposition to the prayer rooms was so strong that local officials “could no longer do their jobs.”
Much of the hostility has flowed from the PyeongChang Olympics Gangwon Citizens’ Islam Countermeasure Association, a relatively new group that pushed a petition against the prayer room via Google. The petition — which stoked fear about radical Islam in the South Korean province of Gangwon — has collected more than 56,000 digital signatures.
“The government has already spent too much of the taxpayers’ money on the Games, and we shouldn’t spend more building a prayer room,” Seo Ji-hyun, the director of operations at the Islam Countermeasure Association, told Al Jazeera. He also suggested that Muslims should refrain from prayer at the Olympic Games as they supposedly would while flying or driving.
Islamophobia is nothing new in South Korea, where Muslims comprise just 0.2 percent of an overall population of 51 million. The Citizens’ Association for a Proper Country, a civic group led by Jeong Hyeong-man, has advocated against halal-friendly establishments and warned against “the increase of Muslim terrorist bases in Korea.”
Muslim athletes in PyeongChang still have access to a cafeteria serving certified halal food. And all visitors to the Winter Games who adhere to the faith can count on vociferous support from the Korean Muslim Federation.”
The world is probably still a bit on edge as the number of radical Islamic terror attacks have caused mass amounts of damage, destruction, and loss of life. People all across the world are not entirely trustworthy of the Muslim religion just yet. There’s plenty of reasons why, which is because of the terror attacks they’ve committed. There’s also the concept of child brides, female oppression, murdering gays, gang rape crimes by Muslim refugees, and the inability for many uncivilized Muslims to join the current century and assimilate to the social norms that are now accepted. For example, having a child bride is not genuinely acceptable anywhere, nor should it be.
Strapping explosives to one’s body and blowing themselves up in the name of their religion is not honorable, it’s awful. It destroys lives, property, and the person who commits that crime lose their own life and get nothing out of it.
Are the protesters who wouldn’t accept the prayer room for Muslims bad people? Not particularly. They’re probably not able to fully trust the members of the religion just yet. It takes time to build trust between people and groups of people.
Some may call it Islamaphobia, but others call it being precautious. When a group of people or a religion is individually responsible for a large number of terror attacks, then it makes sense for people to be a bit wary of welcoming someone into their country. Sometimes all the terror attacks aren’t worth it in the long run.
The general concept of the Muslim religion is very meager. It’s hard for people to be trusting of a group who continually commits acts of terror.
The world needs the good Muslims of the world to condemn the bad ones. The great, peaceful, and hard working Muslims must revolt against the radical Islamic terrorists who make their religion look horrible to everyone else.
Will that ever happen?
